Intertextuality...
Intertextuality is the shaping of a text's meaning by another text. It is reference to other films within the texts that are given within the video, by looking at the interrelationship between how the texts are working.
With using this it can help audiences take further levels of meaning away from the given text that is seen within the video.
Examples of Some Music Videos
1.
Within the music video “Love Story” by Taylor Swift. This is the video that is a look alike of a modernised version of the story, relating more to the lyrics of the song. The story that is told within this is the idea based around the love story of Romeo and Juliet. Within the music video there is a link with the story which this is based around the balcony scene within the music video which is in the Romeo and Juliet story.
2.
The example of Robbie Williams within his music video “You know me” This music video features the artist to an “Alice in Wonderland” style setting with Singer Robbie Williams dressed up as a rabbit from the film showing how this video links in with the idea of giving the music video links in with the text that it is based around. The artist plays the white rabbit, while the females are dressed as play toys for the male, while wearing provocative costumes including hearts.

3.

Another example of how intertextuality has been shown within music videos is the song links between the songs “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor and “Roar” by Katy Perry, these are both similar within each other this is because both music videos contain lyrics that they talk about “Eye of the Tiger” as the lyrics cross over in both of the videos, this then shows the similarity between the two music videos and how they contain intertextuality.
