Narrative Analysis...
My Narrative Analysis is based around the Music Video of Taylor Swift "Blank Space"
-
How is the narrative ?
The Narrative is structured by using amplification this is where it links in with being inspired by the song and adds a narrative element to complement the theme of what the song is saying in this case it is based around love relationships. The Narrative is structured by starting off with this big fancy house showing the wealth that the characters are in showing that they have this fantastic life of money and love. The consequences of the video is when she finds out about her male partner and she becomes the villain who is seen and described as being reckless, within the story telling. The revelation that we gain from this is when she finds love within the male again and boys are only wanting love when it is “torture” making her seem the villain as torturing them.
-
Where on the narrative arc is it taking place?
On the narrative arc it is taking place within the Exposition of the where she has this fantastic life and then it would go onto the Climax where she becomes the villain towards her male partner and then it goes to the revelation where she finds love within him again.
-
Is it linear of non-linear? Why?
This music video is non-linear because it relates more towards the idea of being episodic where we have this idea of a love, hate relationship between the couple and how they always face consequences and then the revelation of them emerging back together again.
-
What drive the narrative?
The conflicts that are focused within this music video is the idea of the couple falling out there is a conflict within the way that they dishearten each other and become reckless with the sight of them fighting and her torturing the male character for what he has done to her. Showing that it is revealing the theme of love relationships and even with a fancy life you’re always going to face problems and troubled situations.
-
How are the audience Postioned?
Within the music video we can see that this is being encouraged to solve your relationships that have difficulty and that they can be resolved in and the use of how she gives the idea of her being crazy makes this more enjoyable to watch and understand at the same time. The character that would be mostly represented to her is the female character because it is all about her relationship and describing what it is like with the character codes of her being this crazy villain.
-
Whose Story is it?
When looking at this music video we can see that this talks about the idea of troubled relationships. Whilst doing some research about the song and Taylor Swift it says that “approached him with the idea for the treatment, saying she was all too aware of the jokes made about all of her ex-boyfriends and how she likes to include them in her song writing. She told him that she wanted to address the general thought of her in the clip in a fun way by playing a crazy villain” This would then show the idea of it being her story and why she had the ideas that were included within the song.
-
What is the intended between the in the video?
The intended relationship between the performance and narrative within the video we can see that this video doesn’t include performance, it mainly includes narrative within the video, showing that this telling a socially important story, not just about herself but aiming this towards others that have relationships like that and that when being In love problems can be overcome.

What is the of the text?
-
Why would an audience watch it again?
-
The pleasure that is included within this video is that it involves funny elements and that it is also telling a story and how love can be resolved and this can be shown within the idea of pleasure towards the theme and its audience, in how it may show them how relationships can be sorted within situations like those. This would then link in with the idea of the audience wanting to watch the video again because of how it shows the support of how relationships can be given a positive outcome and in the way in which the audience would want to know the starting of this and the ending and how it can be similar to theirs and the fun side of the song helps also to distribute this idea.
